*Please note that the Centre will be closed for the civic holidays: July 1 and August 4

Eco Camps
Will run from July 2-August 21
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 10:00 am -12:00 pm
Eco rangers are asked to pack sunscreen, hats, appropriate clothing and footwear and to bring a snack. Ages are 4-14

keep permission from parents. Omit original rates and lunch request
Cost per child is $8 a day no other deals

  Tuesday July 8th - July 22nd - August 5th - August 19th
  Activity Description
  Eco-Centre Exploration ......... Discover the fascinating elements of the Eco-Centre and learn about all its wonderful critters.
  Flying High Frisbee Golf ......... Combine the skills of frisbee and golf while exploring the local outdoor environment.
  Promise Tree ........................ Youth make promises to do their part to help our world and combine these promises to form a tree.
  Square-Dance Set .................

 

Participate in and learn about the traditional Cape Breton square-dance set.

 

  Wednesday July 9th - July 23rd - August 6th - August 20th
  Activity Description
  I Spy Scavenger Hunt ............ Find culture and nature related items while exploring the lab and/or outdoor environments.
  Predator/Prey Tag ................. Enjoy an exciting game of tag while role playing different species in our world.
  Homemade Chia Pets ............. Make and care for a Chia Pet friend while learning about seed growth and soil.
  Culture Story Time ................

 

Write and share a story about a particular cultural experience.

 

  Thursday July 10th - July 24th - August 7th - August 21st
  Activity Description
  Eco-Cranium .......................... Play the game of Cranium with a twist- all questions are environmentally related!
  Kite Flying/Ring Toss .............. Learn about wind power while playing a fun and challenging game.
  Birdfeeders ........................... Design a birdfeeder and watch while it is visited by our local bird population.
  Cultural Charades ..................

 

Perform and become an interesting cultural person or thing while participants try and guess what/who you are.

 

  Tuesday July 15th - July 29th - August 12th - August 26th
  Activity Description
  Water Testing ........................ Take a scientific approach and learn about the different elements of our local water.
  Butterfly Dodgeball ................ Players (butterflies) try to avoid dodgeballs (water) as they begin to understand butterflies and their issues with rain.
  Aquarium Habitat Build .......... Recreate a suitable habitat for a local creature using materials inside and outside the Eco-Centre.
  Song Time ............................

 

Select a fun song and make your own version of it with new lyrics that are focused on our local heritage and culture.

 

  Wednesday July 16th - July 30th - August 13th - August 27th
  Activity Description
  Eco Youth Game .................... Access computers and explore the Eco Kids website which includes eco-related games, information and facts.
  Eco Excursion ........................ Investigate the outdoors and get immersed in the natural beauty of the Whycocomagh area.
  Nature Murals ........................ A recycled art project where youth create a nature scene while using their imagination.
  Cultural Skits .........................

 

A situational group activity where students are given scenarios and act out how they would react to them.

 

  Thursday July 17th - July 31st - August 14th - August 28th
  Activity Description
  Microscope Time .................... Get up close and personal with living things from the outdoors.
  Kangaroo Soccer ................... Learn about this foreign creature then play the traditional game of soccer.
  Recycling Posters ................... Use your artistic skills to demonstrate how you can reduce, reuse, recycle and compost.
  I am Poems ........................... A creative way to describe facts on the different elements and people in our local culture.
