The Whycocomagh Eco-Centre began operation in late 2005. We occupy a beautiful Eco-Lab space and have access to the  to the breathtaking shores of the Bras d’Or  Lakes and the Skye River Estuary (where salt and fresh water meet). Though we are just beginning to bloom, envisioning for the Centre began many years ago.

A group of individuals from the Whycocomagh Education Centre in consultation with the Whycocomagh Development Commission, the Whycocomagh School Advisory Council, Saint Francis Xavier University and other community organizations recognized the extraordinary value of the area for outdoor experiences and nature appreciation. Together they worked towards building a facility to accommodate tourists, local citizens, students and anyone with an interest in learning about nature.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop and provide experiences in nature that will create a connection to and an understanding of our relationship with the Earth community.

Our Approach

The main focus of the Whycocomagh Eco-Centre is to facilitate and promote awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship to nature. Our aim is to educate society about the value and importance of a healthy and sustainable world and to therefore respect and appreciate all the wonderful gifts our earth has to offer. We are not here to make people feel overwhelmed and frustrated about the numerous environmental issues and problems. We are here to make people feel empowered and educated on how to appreciate our world and how we can all do small things to help!
